Run or walk with your dog at a benefit for Best Friends for Life Animal Rescue Inc.

Best Friends for Life Animal Rescue Inc. and Tony's Oil invite you and your dog to join us for our new benefit, the 2nd Annual Layza's Run for Rescue. You can run or walk with your dog on the rolling courses at the Mount Southington Ski Area on September 17, 2017 from 8 am to 12 noon (registration opens at 7 am). We ask that all participating dogs remain leashed.

Trophies will be awarded at the end of the race. There will be female/male age classes. The admission fee for the 5K is $27.25 and the 10K $37.75. Sponsorships are also available for this event and further information may be obtained by calling 860-747-5412.

After the race we hope you will stay for the wellness fair. Our vendors are carefully selected and we know they care about the health and happiness of dogs as much as we do. Read more about the work we do at Best Friends for Life Animal Rescue and you'll understand why this benefit is extremely important to us.

If you're coming from out of town, a discounted rate at pet friendly hotels in Southington is available. Call 877-411-FIDO if you need to speak with a pet travel expert.

Layza's Story
Layza was rescued from the NYCACC, where she would have been euthanized. She was dumped there after being used as a breeder dog. She had mamory gland tumors which led to lymphoma. We treated her at the Veterinary Oncology Center in Norwalk for 13 months where she did go into remission for a while.

This race was originally planned to be a half marathon/5K and will grow into that in time. Due to expenses and being a new race, it was shortened. The thought was that the 13.1 mile race would honor our Layza who survived and thrived for 13 months, leaving paws on our hearts.
